The validity of seasonal trends are constantly debated on Wall Street, but usually you can’t ignore when the market is strong at a time when is usually isn’t.
The S&P 500 just put in a positive September and history shows when that occurs, the rest of the year ends up ok.
The S&P 500 has averaged an increase of 5.5 percent in the final three months of the year when September is an up month, according to Bespoke Investment Group.
What’s more, when stocks rise in September, they are higher in the 4th quarter 80 percent of the time. Of course, while September is known as the worst month for the market, October, typically a positive month, is known for its Black Swan events.
