Trading The Globe: Russia

Looks like Pepsi wants to be the soft drink of choice in Russia.

The company is planning to spend $3.8 billion for a 2/3 stake in Russian beverage company Wimm Bill Dann .

It would be Pepsi's largest ever international acquisition and would make PepsiCo the biggest food and beverage company in Russia holding six of the country's 20 largest food and drink brands.

”This tells me just how much companies are falling all over themselves to get to the emerging markets consumer,” says Tim Seymour.

”Other ways to play the Russian consumer include VimpelComm and MobileTeleSystems,” he counsels.

* In case you're wondering, Wimm-Bill-Dann was founded in 1992 shortly after the breakup of the Soviet Union. It has grown to more than 16,000 employees and 38 plants.
