The videogame industry may have to come up with a rating beyond 'M' for mature audiences.
May 'P' for perv?
Ok, I'm being a little judgmental, but here's one more reason to knock before entering your teenage son's room.
Porn companies are discovering the profit potential of creating games for the Microsoft Kinect.
The Seattle P-I quotes Brad Abram, vice president of business development at adult entertainment company ThriXXX:
"The Kinect controller is astonishing new technology that allows users to experience cybersex like never before! It's novel, sexy, social, age-spanning, crazy, and a rush to have virtual control at this level."
Abram's firm is hoping to have a game out next year which allows users to move a virtual hand around the body of a virtual porn star. "We have always made sure you can play our games relatively easy with one hand, if you get my drift," Abram told the paper.
Several attempts to post a demo video of the proposed game have been removed by YouTube.
The move from Xbox to Sexbox makes a lot of sense.
In a world where porn is struggling to make money because so much of it can be accessed for free, here's something new the industry can charge for.
It'll bring new meaning to "interactive gaming".
UPDATE: A Microsoft spokesperson released the following statement:
“This isn’t the first example of a technology being used in ways not intended by its manufacturer, and it won’t be the last. Microsoft did not authorize or license its technology for this use. Xbox is a family friendly games and entertainment console and does not allow Adults Only (AO) content to be certified for use on its platform, and would not condone this type of game for Kinect.”
