The SEC has seen a big rise in the number of tips about potential fraud and corruption, since the Dodd-Frank financial reform law extended whistleblower provisions.

People (often senior company managers) who reveal corporate wrongdoing can collect monetary rewards—as high as 30 percent of the amount recovered by the government.
