There has always been a financial incentive for whistleblowers to provide tips to law enforcement. However, the pot has been sweetened. Under the Dodd-Frank law, anyone providing the Securities and Exchange Commission with a tip leading to an enforcement action worth $1 million or more in fines can earn as much as 30 percent of the penalty.
