Nasdaq OMX Group has said it would consider selling NYSE Euronext’s American Stock Exchange division if it would help smooth its acquisition of the NYSE Euronext, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The move is meant to facilitate the antitrust approval of the purchase from US Department of Justice, which Nasdaq Chief Executive Robert Greifeld said he was hoping to get guidance from within the next six or seven weeks, the Journal reported.

After the Nasdaq and IntercontinentalExchange’s bid to buy out NYSE Euronext from Deutsche Boerse was rejected by NYSE Euronext, investors are hoping a revised offering would eventually work out.
