Air fares have been on a steady ascent this year as airlines raise prices to cover fuel costs. Some critics, however, say there's an additional reason. The economy is recovering and with that demand for a limited number of seats, following years of capacity reduction by airlines. Fewer planes means fewer seats and that adds up to higher prices.

Some consumers have said enough is enough and are changing their plans.
