Many of us know the feeling. While travelingabroad, you see a large, wide and fat person (re: obese) person and chances are he or she is American.

The Centers for Disease Control considers obesity in America an epidemic; more than one out of three adults and 17 percent of all children are technically overweight to the point of obesity.

Based on the most recent data (2006), obese people spend an average of $1,400 more on health care each year.
