Six Short and Long-Term Plays: Stock Pickers

These are several plays that will climb in the short- and long-run, said Kevin Sanderford, principal of Colorado West Investments and James Dailey, CIO and senior portfolio manager at Team Asset Strategy Fund.

Energy and ag (agriculture) have had huge runups, but in the long-term—5 years—we think they will continue to go higher,” Sanderford told CNBC Thursday. (Scroll down for his full picks.)

In addition, Sanderford said he favors investing in water.

“The lack of drinking water and irrigation water—those are trends that have legs and will continue to run,” he explained. “You want to own companies that are facilitating the treatment.”

In the meantime, Dailey noted that there is a “global industrial slowdown” happening, which will likely impact the emerging markets and the companies more leveraged to the industrial cycle.

“So in the short- to intermediate-term, we’re favoring more service-oriented stock market segments and domestic stock markets.”
