All Star Investor – Shawn Reynolds’ Favorite Investment Themes

All day on Wednesday, CNBC spoke with “All Star Investors”, the very best stock pickers with returns that reflect their success.

On Fast at 5, five-star manager Shawn Reynolds Van Eck Fund Co-Portfolio Manager revealed some of his favorite investment themes.

Theme #1 – Overseas Energy Exploration

Two stocks Reynolds likes in the space are Pioneer Natural Resources and Cimarex. “Both of these names have the ability to add significant amount of reserves – big quantum chunks of reserves over the next several years and that’s what’s really attractive to us.”

Theme #2 – Unconventional Oil Plays

Here Reynolds says look at Halliburton. “Unconventional oil (horizontal drilling, fracking, and shale gas) is big and profitable right now. You saw that in the Halliburton numbers. A lot of people were expecting the weakness in gas to impact them (but because of unconventional oil) those rig numbers were better than expected."
