Warren Buffett revealed to shareholders at today's annual meeting that he recently considered a $22 billion acquisition but couldn't get the deal done.

He didn't reveal the name of the potential target.

Buffett says the deal would have required him to sell some stock that he would have preferred to keep, but he liked it anyway.

At $22 billion, it would have been one of Berkshire's biggest buys ever, behind the 2010 $26 billion acquisition of Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Buffett says he's still ready to make a $20 billion deal if he can find the right one. And next year, if he doesn't done a big deal, he'll be saying he's ready to make a $30 billion purchase if he likes it.
