Dan Nathan Bullish RIM into Thursday Earnings

It’s hard to find a trader willing to make a bullish bet on RIM , but we looked far and wide and found Dan Nathan.

He’s betting on upside ahead of Research in Motion earnings on Thursday but not because he expects the company to say something profound.

“We already know the company is troubled,” says the editor and co-founder of RiskReversal.com.

Instead he believes so much pessimism is baked into the stock that if the company says anything that suggests it could unlock shareholder value – the stock will pop. "It could go to $10," he says.

And the Sunday Times of London wrote this week that RIM was looking to split its hardware business from its messaging network business. It pointed to Amazonand Facebook as potential buyers for the hardware business, without naming any sources.

“Remember this is a sum of the parts story,” Nathan adds.

However, it's important to note this trade is highly speculative. If you follow him into RIM, Nathan says only play with options so you limit your downside risk. "And be prepared to lose your shirt."
