The amenity, dubbed Flagship Check-In , is a priority service that's available to some premium passengers, and those willing to cough up some extra money. Features include a dedicated and private check-in area, and designated customer service representatives, who personally assist with baggage, seat assignments and itinerary changes. There's also a separate security line specifically for Flagship fliers that lets you go to the front of the queue. After security, Flagship Check-In guests are invited to use American's Admirals Club lounge.

"Expanding Flagship Check-In to Miami will provide our most high-value customers with our very best service, something especially appreciated during peak travel periods, such as this holiday week," said Virasb Vahidi, American's Chief Commercial Officer, in a press release .

This is the second Flagship Check-In American introduced at a U.S. airport. The airline's first location at Los Angeles International Airport opened in November 2011.

The service is only available to the following passengers:

  • ConciergeKey members (invite-only VIP program for big spenders).
  • Five Star Service customers (one-on-one airport assistance program that can be purchased day of flight. Prices start at $125 for one passenger).
  • First Class customers traveling on three-class trans-continental aircraft between Miami and LAX, or LAX and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.
  • First Class customers traveling on an American or oneworld alliance international aircraft anywhere in their outbound itinerary.

The service is available between 4 a.m. and 11 p.m., and is located in Concourse D of the North Terminal of Miami airport.

American also operates a Flagship Check-In area at London's Heathrow airport, but the eligibility requirements there are different. Passengers traveling to the U.S. in First or Business Class, AAdvantage Executive Platinum members, and oneworld Emerald customers are afforded the exclusive service.
