That's a bit more than last year's $1.5 billion, even though Buffett handed over almost a million fewer shares this time around.
(In a 2006 letter to Microsoft's chairman and his wife, Buffett outlined a long-term schedule that has him donating five percent fewer shares each July, when compared to the previous year.)
Over seven years, Buffett has donated almost 151 million shares, worth a total of almost $11 billion based on the share price on the day of each gift.
At today's close, those shares would be valued at almost $12.7 billion.
In this filing, Buffett also discloses his annual gifts totaling almost 3.8 million shares and worth about $311 million to a foundation named for his late first wife and foundations run by his three children.
But that's not all. There are still more gifts in this filing covering the first half of the year. It lists eight donations totaling 238,165 shares to "a charity or charitable foundation." No names, so the recipients are a mystery.
The total value of those gifts, based on the closing price on the day of the donation, is $18.7 million. The biggest of those gifts was worth almost $9.9 million, while the smallest came in at just under $25,000.
Another 150 shares went to finalists in a business competition for school children.
