Prior to co-founding investment management firm AQR Capital Management, Clifford S. Asness was at Goldman Sachs, where he was a managing director and director of quantitative research for the asset management division.

Asness has authored articles on many financial topics, receiving awards from the Journal of Portfolio Management and Financial Analysts Journal. In addition, he earned the CFA Institute's James R. Vertin Award, given to individuals who have produced a "body of research notable for its relevance and enduring value to investment professionals."

He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Portfolio Management and the Financial Analysts Journal, the governing board of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Finance at NYU, the board of the International Rescue Committee and is a trustee of the Manhattan Institute and the Atlas Society.

Cliff received a B.S. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business as well as a B.S. in engineering from the university's Moore School of Electrical Engineering, graduating summa cum laude in both cases.

He also has an MBA with high honors and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Chicago, where he was a student and teaching assistant for two years for Eugene Fama, who was a candidate for the Nobel Prize.
