Airlines were canceling hundreds of flights and issuing travel waivers for many Northeast cities, as a new storm headed for the Super Storm Sandy-stricken region.

About 1,200 flights have been cancelled so far, with most of the affected flights at Newark airport (EWR), where about 470 flights were cancelled, according to FlightAware.com. Roughly 300 flights have also been cancelled for Thursday.
Among the airlines issuing waivers — which allow for fee-free changes or refunds for impacted flights — were American, Delta, United and US Airways . United's parent is United Continental Holdings .

Travel dates: November 7 to November 8.
Original ticket must have been purchased by: November 6.
Policy: Passengers may change flights without penalty, have the ticket-reissue charge waived for one ticket change and begin rescheduled travel as late as November 15.

Policy: If your flight is canceled or significantly delayed, you are entitled to a refund. Even if your flight is not canceled, you may make a one-time change to your ticket without fee. Rescheduled travel must begin by November 16.
