Apple has fired the manager of the company's mapping system software unit that was criticized for embarrassing glitches during the launch of its iOS 6 Maps, according to a report.

Richard Williamson, who worked at Apple for more than a decade, was fired by Senior Vice President Eddy Cue, according to report from All Things D.

Williamson was in charge of the team that developed the mapping for the iOS 6 software.

Apple, which dropped Google's mapping system for its own system, has been widely criticized for inaccuracies and navigation flaws in its mapping software, and the company said it has taken action to ensure that the problem gets fixed.

Williamson's termination follows the ouster of former company executive Scott Forstall, who was the iOS software chief.

Apple did not immediately respond to request for comment.
