We've told you a few times today that actor Jonathan Tucker was the winner in Trading with the Stars--our celebrity portion of the Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge. While that contest and the Second Chance Showdown continues--we say goodbye to TWS--and express our thanks to all the celebs who took part. We had a chance to hear from Jonathan today--he's on location in Australia for a film--but he called in to express his thanks for the money going to his charity.
An exciting nine weeks at CNBC saw the network's programs "duke" it out to see whose celebrity had the best stock-trading chops. And the winner is actor Jonathan Tucker who won the Trading with the Stars portion of the CNBC Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge. For his winning contest stock portfolio, Jonathan will get $50,000 to give to his charity of choice--The Pegasus Fund, which helps send underprivileged children to camp.
It's official--actor Jonathan Tucker is our winner in the Trading With The Stars portion of our Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge. By coming in first, Jonathan wins $50,000 for his charity-The Pegasus Fund--which helps send underprivileged children to camp. Meanwhile, actor Stephen Collins came in 2nd and fellow actor Ernie Hudson is third. Here's a quick rundown of who came in where and their final portfolio values. We'll have a further breakdown later in the day.
Friday--today--is the last day of Trading With The Stars--and only transactions that were input by 4 pm ET Thursday will make a difference in their standings. As the Dow fell almost 150 points, Ernie Hudson was the only celeb to show a portfolio gain Thursday--on Gmarket. Jonathan Tucker regained the top spot, and Stephen Collins fell back into second on heavy losses in Golden Telecom. Meanwhile, Chris Moneymaker got crushed on Allscripts Healthcare, which has cost him $181,862.60 since he purchased it on 5/8, and he is now in last place. James Cromwell was hit hard by Knot Inc. which cost him $160K dropping him from 4th to 8th.
Wow--can Stephen Collins pick em or not. As we mentioned in an earlier post on contest stocks--best performong stock Foster Wheeler let the actor soar into first place in Trading With The Stars--with a $78K gain on FWLT--which was up 19.96% Wednesday. He now has a total portfolio value of $1,237,825.31 which gives him a $14K lead over Jonathan Tucker with 2 days remaining in the contest. Lots of hooray's for Stephen from the "Morning Call" Team--the show he's playing for.
The top 4 celebrities remain constant with Jonathan Tucker holding onto his lead with only $62,581.29 separating him from Stephen Collins. Poker champion Moneymaker is betting on Allscripts Healthcare to move him up from 4th on strong earnings after the bell Tuesday. And Hall of Famer Johnny Bench is counting on American Oriental Bioengineering to continue to perform--as he's in 5th place.
It's certainly coming down to the wire in Trading With The Stars. As we said, this is the last week for this part of the Million Dollar Portfolio Challenge. And Jonathan Tucker stays on top with a total portfolio value of $1,204,305.00 which is up $5,905.00 from Friday's total. Stephen Collins continues in the #2 spot with a total portfolio value of $1,166,355.20. That's up $6,348.18 from Friday's total and Stephen continues to close the gap with Jonathan Tucker.
It's do or die time for our celebs as this is the final week of Trading With The Stars, so here are the standings. Jonathan tucker holds on to the lead with a total portfolio value of $1,198,400.00 which is down $25 from Thursday's total. Stephen Collins continues in the #2 spot with a total portfolio value of $1,160,007.02 up more than $41K from Thursday's total and is now within about $38K from the top.
The actors have been doing pretty well lately in Trading With The Stars, but the non-acting celebs are making a move--including Johnny Bench (so, his picture gets posted). Jonathan Tucker still holds first place on modest gains in Washington Grp and Starwood Hotels. Stephen Collins takes back 2nd place on gains in Emergency Medical Services up 10.13% Thursday. But poker champ Chris Moneymaker moves from 8th to 5th on a 2.73% gain in Gigamedia..
The first four celebs remain the same in Trading With The Stars--and all actors. Actor Jonathan Tucker maintains his vice grip on first place with gains in Starwood Hotels and Washington Grp. Actor James Cromwell holds onto second place, as fellow actors Stephen Collins remains in 3rd and Ernie Hudson in 4th. Meanwhile--another actor--Willie Garson muscles his way from 9th to 5th on an all-in trade on ACME Packet up 4.05% on Wednesday. Wow--either actors are great stock pickers are they're ALL getting great advice. That leaves a financial guru, comedienne, champion poker player, political guru and Hall of Famer--in that order.
Actor Jonathan Tucker holds the lead in Trading With The Stars--as Ernie Hudson falls to 4th place from 2nd on a 30% decline on I2 Technologies. Meanwhile, James Cromwell moves into second followed by Stephen Collins in third. Only $982 separates James and Stephen--and lower down in the rankings--only about $200 separate Chris Moneymaker and Judy Gold. Willie falls from 5th to 9th losing over $72K and falling under $1M in total portfolio value, taking a hit on his sale of Glatfelter--which fell almost 7% Tuesday.
Wow--actor Ernie Hudson pulled out all the stops (thus his picture gets listed) and jumped from 4th into 2nd place in Trading With The Stars. This continues his momentous climb as he had previously moved from 8th to 4th. So Ernie is definitely on a roll or donut -or just plain getting some great advice. Ernie knocks fellow actor Stephen Collins into 4th place behind James Cromwell, while Jonathan Tucker keeps a hold on 1st place. And Johnny Bench might take a few lessons from Ernie. The Hall of Fame catcher keeps 10th place very warm!
Jonathan Tucker and Stephen Collins continue to hold the top 2 spots. Stephen added another $22K on big gains with Varian Semi Eqmt Assoc. which was up 22.79%. Neither made any transactions Friday besides adding $3,000 in bonus bucks each. Ernie Hudson jumped from #8 to #4 gaining $68,399.39 over Thursday's total mostly on the sale of Biadu.com Inc. which added $56,240.00. Meanwhile, Johnny Bench dropped from #7 back to the basement. Both of his holdings were down Friday for a loss of $32,242.72 or -3.08% on the day.
It's the "usual suspects" holding down the top three spots on Trading With The Stars. Jonathan Tucker and a very active Stephen Collins maintain a status quo by holding the first two positions. Jonathan has not made any transactions except for bonus bucks since 4/23, and Stephen had been active buying and selling and getting big gains on Advanced Energy--balanced by losses in C-Cor. James Cromwell continues to hold 3rd place.
Actors Jonathan Tucker and Stephen Collins hold onto the first two positions in Trading With The Stars. (We post Jonathan's picture--as he still leads). Stephen had gains on most of his purchases on 4/24, but lost almost 6% on Advanced Energy. Meanwhile, Ernie Hudson continues to be the most volatile moving from down 5th to 8th on losses in Advent Software and Mentor.
Actor Jonathan Tucker maintains his lead and fellow actor Stephen Collins holds on to second. Stephen was by far the most active celeb Tuesday (trust me, putting in all those ticker symbols for him was NOT easy), but his purchases could give him the lead if they perform well on Wednesday. Meanwhile, James Cromwell holds on to 3rd place, but Ernie Hudson falls from 4th place to 5th.
Actor Jonathan Tucker holds on to the top spot with a total portfolio value of $1,168,185.00 up $6,310.00 or 0.54% from Friday's total. But the real big news came from fellow actor Ernie Hudson. He climbed from 9th place on Friday to 4th Monday with a total portfolio value of $1,079,649.52--up $48,701.76 or 4.72% from Friday's total. Ernie added $45,701.76 to his total on the sale of Arch Coal (ACI) which was up 4.43% Monday.
What's the latest on Trading With The Stars?? Actor Jonathan Tucker holds onto 1st place (and gets his picture posted again) because of Google's solid earnings and gains across almost all of his holdings. Meanwhile, Willie Garson fights his way back into third place on Brilliance China Auto, as Chris Moneymaker falls from 3rd to 5th place on a $60K loss on Tempur-Pedic.
Time to put back Jonathan Tucker's photo in the blog post as the actor has pushed out poker champion Chris Moneymaker from the top spot in Trading With The Stars. Jonathan is now followed by fellow actor Stephen Collins in 2nd. Moneymaker lost on Cubist Pharma which fell 7.46% Thursday. It's a close race between the top 3, with only....
It was a volatile day for the celebs. Champion poker player Chris Moneymaker holds onto the first spot despite his $90K loss on Syntel but actor Jonathan Tucker takes over the #2 spot. Meanwhile, Willie Garson falls into 4th, allowing Stephen Collins to gain 3rd place. Johnny Bench falls from 6th to 8th. One of the stocks for Chris M., CBST, is also a favorite of Parker Robinson in our non-celeb trading. Both are "banking" on it paying off.
