Billionaire reveals two questions he always asks potential hires

Mogul and CEO Tilman Fertitta started small: peeling shrimp at his dad's seafood restaurant in Galveston, Texas, after school.

Today, he owns the restaurant conglomerate Landry's, which includes McCormick & Schmick's, Landry's Seafood, and the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

And if you want to work for the self-made billionaire and star of CNBC's "Billion Dollar Buyer," you should be prepared to answer two very specific interview questions.

"I always ask candidates two things," Fertitta tells CNBC. "'How many times have you been fired?' And, 'Do you watch your clock when it's time to go? Do you look at your phone? Do you look at your watch?'"

Nothing goes unnoticed to an employer, the billionaire emphasizes: "Everybody notices if you're the last one in in the morning and the first one to go in the evening. Always remember that as an employee."

This doesn't necessarily mean you should put in more hours just to put in hours. "When you have to stay late, you stay late, and when you don't have to stay late, you go home," Fertitta says. But, "you do whatever it takes to get the job done that day."

"Billion Dollar Buyer" Season 2 premieres November 22 at 10:00 PM ET.
