Say goodbye to the Nexus 5

Google will be quietly retiring its Nexus 5 handset to focus on bigger screens and tablets, Forbes reported.

Google has been shifting its attention onto the phablet and tablet spaces of the Android ecosystem, according to Forbes, adding that the company is still based around selling advertising. Bigger screens mean more space for advertising around content, be it in an app or through browsers.

Google is already moving towards bigger phones, according to Forbes. The Nexus 6, co-developed with Motorola and launched in November, has a six-inch screen compared to the Nexus 5's five-inch screen.

Nexus 5 was released on October 31, 2013 and was co-developed by Google with LG. Many tech reviewers called the phone one of the best gadgets released that year.

The phone will still be available in the U.S. at least for the first three months of 2015.
