Chinese peer-to-peer lending firm Yirendai rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Friday.

The company was celebrating its first day of trading, with its shares trading under the ticker symbol "YRD."

Yirendai's executive chairman, Ning Tang, and members of the company's management team attended the event, which marked the start of trading Friday.

The company connects investors with borrowers and executes loans online, according to a press release, and it currently has about 6.7 million registered users.

So far, Yirendai has facilitated about $1 billion in loans, according to a company filing with the SEC last month.
