Arizona banker tapped as back-up goalie for NHL team

Nathan Schoenfeld thought he had his hands full with 5-week-old twin boys on Monday night. That was, until he got a text message from a National Hockey League team.

The 31-year-old banker from Scottsdale, Arizona was tapped by the Arizona Coyotes as an emergency goalie about an hour before the Monday night home game, following an injury to backup goalie Anders Lindback, according to the team's official website.

Schoenfeld, the son of former Coyotes head coach Jim Schoenfeld and the son-in-law of the team's head equipment manager, Stan Wilson, skates with the Coyotes alumni team occasionally.

Just 30 minutes prior to the opening face-off, Schoenfeld suited up and signed an amateur tryout agreement with the team, according to the team's website.

Although he did not end up playing in the game, the team said it awarded him an MVP belt.

"I was just going to keep my jersey on and stay here as long as I could, but I think eventually I'll have to go home," Schoenfeld said in a postgame interview with the team's news service.

The Coyotes revealed on Tuesday that they have recalled Niklas Treutle from the club's American Hockey League affiliate to fill the back-up goalie position.
