KEY POINTS
  • The pandemic ruined travel for travel advisors and their clients the last 15 months. However, people who didn't book with an advisor had no advocate and were much worse off.
  • Many of today's agents charge planning fees in addition to collecting much reduced commissions from travel suppliers. Is it worth it to you to pay up?
  • A survey from Sandals Resorts and the American Society of Travel Advisors found that 94% of customers will use them again and 44% of all travelers are more open to the idea post-Covid.

Like much of the travel and hospitality industry, travel agents — or travel advisors — took a huge hit when the pandemic struck in March 2020.

However, after months of struggle and setbacks, a potential silver lining has emerged: Travel advisors' effective advocacy for clients stranded or stymied during the global lockdown has now become perhaps their strongest selling point.
