CNN political anchorman Bernard Shaw announces his upcoming retirement from the network on November 10, 2000 in Atlanta, Ga. Shaw, a 20-year veteran of CNN, said he would leave the network early next year to write books and spend more time with his family.

Bernard Shaw, the award-winning broadcast television journalist who served as chief anchor of CNN for two decades, died on Wednesday, his family said in a statement to the cable news network.

He was 82.
