Coming next to the stage ... 'The Hunger Games'

"The Hunger Games" is coming to a London stage in summer 2016, Lionsgate announced on Friday.

The movie studio is partnering with Dutch media company Imagine Nation and the U.S.-based Triangular Entertainment, to create a "theatrical experience" based on the mega-franchise. The stage adaptation will premiere in a new specially built theater next to Wembley Stadium in London, a release said.

Tony Award-winning Robin de Levita, co-founder of Imagine Nation, is one of the producers of the stage drama. The other members of the team are U.K. promoter Harvey Goldsmith, Triangular Entertainment's Warren Adams and Brandon Victor Dixon of WalkRunFly Productions and entertainment executives Robert Harris and R&R Media's Gary Ricci, the release said.

Based on Suzanne Collin's best-selling "The Hunger Games" trilogy, the films have already grossed $1.5 billion at worldwide box offices, with the next film in the series slated for release on Nov. 21.
