Dutch Finance Minister Wopke Hoekstra told CNBC that it is "too early to tell" whether fiscal targets will be brought back to the euro zone as countries deal with the severe economic shock from Covid-19.
Dutch police detained more than 150 people in a third night of unrest in cities across the Netherlands, where roaming groups of rioters set fires, threw rocks and looted stores in violence triggered by a night curfew aimed at curbing the coronavirus. The nation's first curfew since World War II followed a warning by the National Institute for Health (RIVM) over a new wave of infections due to the "British variant" of the virus, and was imposed despite weeks of declines in new infections.
Europe is seeing a second wave of coronavirus infections. The U.K., France and Spain have seen a sharp rise in cases since late August and early September. Italy and Germany are now seeing numbers starting to pick up dramatically, and have around 449,000 and 398,000 confirmed infections, respectively.
