FIFA, soccer's governing body, revealed Thursday that it has banned Uruguay's Luis Suarez for 9 games and 4 months for biting an Italian opponent during the World Cup, The Associated Press reported.

Luis Suarez, a star player for Liverpool and the Uruguay national team, was seen on camera biting Giorgio Chiellini on Tuesday. This was the third time he has been caught biting an opponent.

Sporting goods company and Suarez sponsor Adidas told CNBC that it "fully supports" FIFA's decision.
"Adidas certainly does not condone Luis Suarez's recent behavior and we will again be reminding him of the high standards we expect from our players," the company said.
Adidas will not use Suarez in any additional World Cup marketing, it added.
