The Kansas City Royals have a chance at history starting Tuesday night with their first World Series in nearly three decades. Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants find themselves in a familiar place: This is their third Series in five years.
So how do the two teams match up off the field as they prepare for the 110th Fall Classic?
So far, it's Kansas City in a sweep.
In terms of the prices they can command for tickets, the smaller-market Royals actually have a small edge. According to secondary ticket aggregator TiqIQ, the current average list price for a Royals home game at Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium is currently $1,196. That's down about 23 percent since Friday, but the Royals still maintain an edge over the Giants, whose current average price is $1,138, which is up about 4 percent.

"What's interesting ... is Giants tickets have steadily crept up," said Jesse Lawrence, CEO of TiqIq. "Part of what is happening there is historic. The Giants are on the verge of dynasty status, and people want to participate in that."
Meanwhile, Lawrence pointed out that there hasn't been a lot of winning in Kansas City for years, which has created a pent-up demand and driven ticket prices higher. The last time the Royals were in the World Series was 1985, when Ronald Reagan was president. Meanwhile, the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs haven't won a Super Bowl since 1969. "That drives ticket prices up significantly," Lawrence said.
When it comes to ticket demand, the World Series is the second-biggest event behind the Super Bowl, according to TiqIQ.

Ticket resale site Stubhub said it's seeing what could be record-breaking demand for the World Series. Spokesperson Cameron Papp said that if the Series goes seven games, the company thinks it will be Stubub's highest-selling World Series ever.
Merchandise sales? KC winning that, too
On the merchandise front, the American League Champion Royals take the title as the top-selling team since both the playoffs began and since league pennants were decided, according to Fanatics.com, the largest online retailer of officially licensed team merchandise.
Giants merchandise sales this postseason are up 300 percent from the same dates during the 2012 playoffs, which was the last time San Francisco advanced to the World Series.
Royals merchandise is up over 700 percent, Fanatics said, compared with the last two weeks of the regular season.

While fans from all 50 states are purchasing apparel, since Kansas City clinched the AL title on Wednesday, Missouri is the top gear-buying state overall.
Vegas is also putting its money on the Royals. According to the sports betting site Bovada, the Kansas City Royals are early favorites over the Giants. The Royals have 5/6 odds to take the Series, while the Giants have even 1/1 odds.
This World Series match-up wasn't exactly predicted. According to Bovada, the odds were 40 to 1 for the Kansas City Royals and 18 to 1 for the Giants to make the World Series before the season started.
Game 1 of the World Series is Tuesday night in Kansas City.
