Rapper Vanilla Ice charged with grand theft

Robert Matthew VanWinkle, an American rapper better known as 'Vanilla Ice', was charged with burglary residence and grand theft on Wednesday.

Police are investigating a residential burglary in Lantana, Florida, in which numerous pieces of furniture, a pool heater, bicycles, and other items were taken. They believe the theft at the house, which is currently in the foreclosure process, occurred between December 2014 and February 2015.

VanWinkle, who was renovating the property adjacent to the burglarized residence, was discovered with several of the stolen items in his possession.

The 47 year-old artist, known for his hit song in 1989 "Ice Ice Baby," was taken into custody after police collected and corroborated witness statements and executed a search warrant at his home.

He currently stars on a show on the DIY Network, which did not immediately return CNBC's request for comment.
