New deal brings Disney blockbuster hits to Imax

If you were hoping to see some of the most anticipated films of the next couple of years in Imax theaters, this is good news for you.

Imax and Disney announced a renewed agreement for a multi-picture deal, beginning this year through 2017. It will include blockbuster hits like Star Wars: Episode VIII, Marvel's Captain America: Civil War and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

In an effort to be more flexible it its programming, Imax will take an active role in the release of the movies, according to the agreement. Highlights of the deal include the Star Wars stand-alone film Rogue One, Marvel's Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, The Jungle Book and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

"Our relationship with Disney has continued to strengthen after having released 25 films in Imax theaters since 2009," said Imax CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "The films in this new agreement promise to continue to provide Imax audiences the highest-quality films available."
