Apple is planning on rolling out the Apple Watch in additional countries before the end of summer, CEO Tim Cook said on the company's earnings conference call on Monday.

"It is a new product for us, and with any kind of a new product you wind up taking some time to fully ramp," Cook said. "We are in a good position, and sometime in late June we anticipate to sell in different countries."

The Apple Watch became available for preorder this month in nine countries: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK and the U.S. While Cook did not say what countries the watch would become available in, he did say that they were making changes to supply in order to catch up with consumer demand.

Shipping dates for the new device have been a hot topic for the company since its launch. In fact, only 22 percent of the preordered watches have been shipped for delivery, according to the research firm Slice Intelligence.

The original ship date was April 24, but most customers who preordered will have to wait well into June for their device, the firm said in its report.

Cook said that because the devices are being sold primarily online, the company has been learning a lot about consumer configurations and that it has been making some adjustments to make changes with demand.

As for consumers who have received their watch, well, they are more than happy with their device, he said.

"Customer response from what I have seen is close to a 100 percent positive, so it's hard to imagine it being better," Cook said.

Besides impressive demand, Cook said the number of apps developers have created for the watch has also been positive.

"We are far ahead of where we expected to be from an application point of view," Cook said.

"When we launched the iPad we had about a 1,000 and our internal goal was to beat the 1,000 level. We now have over 3,500 apps in the app store for the watch."
