New Zealand PM places his bets for Rugby World Cup

New Zealand's Prime Minister is placing his bets ahead of the Rugby World Cup final this Saturday, telling CNBC that the country's All Blacks are set to beat Australia's Wallabies with a comfortable lead.

"It's going to be a great game on Saturday, but in the end, the mighty All Blacks I think they're going to take Australia apart: 27 to 12," Prime Minister John Key told CNBC.

If his prediction comes true, this would mean New Zealand would clock its second Rugby World Cup win in a row, after grabbing their first world title in 24 years in a narrow victory against France in 2011.

"They obviously want to win back to back World Cups, which no one's done," Key said.

"If the All Blacks turn up to play like they did against France then they are a phenomenal side."

"I'm very excited. It's going to be a great game obviously," he said.

But Australia isn't likely to give up without a fight.

"The Australian side is not to be underrated. (David) Pocock and (Michael) Hooper… are really, really good, and they've got a great backline."

"They'll play some pretty great rugby, notwithstanding the pressure of the final," Key said.

It comes after New Zealand squeezed past South Africa last weekend, ending the semi-final with a 20 to 18 win.

England's rugby exit: Not a total disaster

Now, as the All Blacks go head to head with their Antipodean neighbors, Key says that rivalry will help drive home a win for New Zealand.

"In Australia, interestingly enough, rugby is big in New South Wales and to a certain degree in Victoria and obviously Queensland, but not all over Australia...[But] in New Zealand, it's a religion. It's the major sport that we play, so the domestic competition really helps our guys."

The Rugby World Cup final will be played in England's Twickenham stadium on Saturday, October 31. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm GMT.
