Texting may be coming soon to a theater near you.
In an interview with Variety, AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron said that the company may consider allowing moviegoers to keep their cellphones on, in part to appeal to millennials.
"When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don't ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow," Aron told the publication. "You can't tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That's not how they live their life."
However, Aron said that the company would have to find a way to allow cellphone use during movies that doesn't disturb the rest of the audience.
"There's a reason there are ads up there saying turn off your phone, because today's moviegoer doesn't want somebody sitting next to them texting or having their phone on," he told Variety.
Aron added that having a texting section is a possibility, but that AMC may designate specific auditoriums as texting friendly.
