The "whole financial sector was demolished" in the wake of the subprime mortgage mess -- but analysts and investors "threw the baby out with the bathwater," said Patrick Becker Jr. of Becker Capital Management.

He named two bank stocks with little or no exposure to subprime: CIT Group and Whitney Holding.

Becker added that a good defensive play on the consumer side is Victoria's Secret owner Limited Brands, which has seen "a lot" of insider share movement recently.
