Analyst: Top Techs Still A Good Stock Play

Can investors continue to strengthen their portfolios through the top technology names, or is their recent strength played out?

Piper Jaffray senior research analyst Gene Munster says that depends on which top tech companies you're talking about.

Munster sees more upside in the fortunes of Google and Apple .

"There's just some macro themes that they're tapping into," he told CNBC. "They're going to continue to get stronger. The strong get stronger."

Yahoo is another story. He sees 2008 as a critical year in terms of that company's direction.

"It's clear that Yahoo still has some identity problems," Munster said. "Google's going to continue to change ... the way search is done, and that's going to make it more difficult in 2008 for Yahoo."

Piper Jaffray makes a market in the securities of Apple, Google, and Yahoo.
