CNBC Meets... Richard Desmond

LONDON, 1 June 2011 - CNBC continues its series of programmes profiling some of the world’s most successful business people with an exclusive interview with Richard Desmond, media tycoon and Chairman of Northern & Shell Plc, on Wednesday, 15 June at 10.00pm BST.

CNBC’s guest presenter, Tania Bryer, has been granted a rare interview with Richard Desmond who talks about his childhood, his early business success and how he has managed to become one of Britain’s most powerful media moguls with an estimated personal wealth of £950 million.

Filmed on location in the places that have influenced his life, including his first ever offices in London’s Covent Garden; at Manor House – the pub in north London where he worked as a 13-year-old cloakroom boy; at Northern & Shell’s printing plant and at The Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre at Moorfields Hospital.

The interview reveals what motivates Desmond, why he will never slow down and importantly, how all the millions he gives back through charity work helps transform and save lives. Desmond also talks about the Autumn 2011 launch of his most recent acquisition, The Health Lottery, his love of music and how drumming with Roger Daltrey helps him to raise millions of pounds for good causes.

Featuring interviews with colleagues and friends, including Roger Daltrey and Simon Cowell, this episode takes viewers on an inspirational journey and gives them insight into the enigma that is Richard Desmond.
