Apple Will Host Event Oct. 23, iPad Mini Expected

Appleannounced it will host an event Oct. 23, where it is expected to reveal a smaller iPad and a smaller MacBook Pro with retina display.

The event will be hosted at the California Theatre in San Jose at 10:00 a.m.

Apple sent out press invitations via email Tuesday. The invitation to the event simply states "We've got a little more to show you."

The company is reported to unveil a smaller iPad, dubbed the iPad Mini, with a screen that is a little larger than 7-inches. The current iPad is a little more than 9-inches.

A smaller iPad would allow for Apple to better compete in the ever intensifying tablet market.

Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Samsung all offer consumers smaller tablets, but Apple, while still leading the tablet market, has yet to make a smaller iPad. (Read More: Apple Launching $200 Tablet to Compete With Nexus 7? )
