5 easy side hustles to consider in the new year: Some can make you hundreds of dollars a month

About 6 in 10 Americans say their New Year's resolution is to save money, according to a recent Affirm poll of 2,000 Americans. Picking up a new side hustle could help.

There are plenty of gigs that don't take a lot of time or energy and can still bring in as much as hundreds of dollars a month. Here are five easy side hustles to consider in the new year.

Companies big and small need to test out their apps and websites before they hit the market, and sites like UserTesting pay people to do so. Users sign up on the site, fill in details like age and location, and can then take either 20-to-30-minute tests online or 45-minute tests live with a representative.

Tests pay anywhere from $10 to $120 each and there's no limit to how many you can take per month, depending on what you're eligible for.

Are you an expert in IT, plumbing, doing taxes, or really, almost anything? Sites like JustAnswer offer users the chance to pose questions and get a response from the right expert within minutes. The site's wide range of experts get paid anywhere from $18 to $50 per answer, depending on their field.

RV repairman Randall Gibbons has been making as much as $20,000 per month answering questions on the site.

Note: You must apply to become an expert. JustAnswer has an acceptance rate of 10% to 12% for all applicants.

If you're still commuting or just driving around town for errands, you could be taking advantage of the exposure your car gets by transforming it into a marketing vehicle. Wrapify is an app that lets users match with a company's local marketing campaign and cover their cars with its ads.

Depending on how much of your car you want covered — fully, partially, and so on — Wrapify estimates you could be earning between $174 and $452 per month.

Drivers must be at least 21 years old.

There is a wide range of sites that let you rent out items or spaces you own to make some money. To name a few:

• Fretish. If you're a musician or have sound equipment or studio space that would be perfect for others to use, consider posting it on Fretish. You can set hourly, daily, or weekly rates, with an acoustic electric guitar going for $57 per day in L.A. and a synthesizer in Austin going for $60 per day. Fretish takes an 11% service fee.

• Spinlister. Spinlister lets you list your bike for an hourly, daily, or a weekly rate. It's free to list, but Spinlister takes 17.5% of all transactions.

• Turo. On Turo, listings range from a 2009 Nissan Versa for $30 per day to a 2016 Tesla for $280 per day. Renters make an average of $706 per month, according to the site, earning between 60% and 85% of the trip price, depending on the vehicle insurance plan they choose.

This year was a tough one for trips, but many people have said they are looking forward to traveling again once it is safe to do do. If you're an avid traveler or know a popular location like the back of your hand, consider writing a personalized itinerary for one of these places on sites like Wild Bum.

Guide architects, as they're called on the site, charge anywhere from $25 to $150 for a guide. Architects keep 75% of every sale.
