Mapquest lets users 'be' or 'flee' Donald Trump

MapQuest has unveiled a new service: a map to avoid—or embrace—Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The map offers two options "flee him" or "be him" which provide users with suggestions for activities and experiences in major cities that either help to avoid the businessman or live just like him.

The content for this map is user-created, with contributors reporting on places that they live in and "providing authentic, useful and passionate content."

In New York City, for example, MapQuest contributors suggest that you "walk around Trump Tower like you own the place" if you want to harness your inner Donald Trump. If you're looking to keep your distance, however, the map says you should "go ice skating" or "eat at a Mexican restaurant."

Representatives from Donald Trump's camp did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

The Trump map appears on Parachute by MapQuest, a platform that provides users with insider tips, articles and interactive maps to guide them through their destination.

"What we are really trying to do with [Parachute] is empower users in a new way—really taking them inside their local destinations and also, of course, to delight and entertain them," James Kerley, head of content at MapQuest, told CNBC. "Donald Trump is a hot topic and we want to give relevant topics to our readers and our users. So we thought it would be a fun, quirky way to get readers involved."

MapQuest plans to reveal another map in the future called "Avoid the Bern." Similar to the Trump map, this one will feature ways to avoid or embrace Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders while traveling.

In addition, the company will have a "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" map in anticipation of the new film which will help users find activities and experiences for a Star Wars-inspired day.

MapQuest is "always looking for new ideas, new ways to make mapping interesting and fun," Kerley said. "Maps should be enjoyable. They don't have to just be a utility. They should be fun."
