The New York Mets earned a spot in baseball's World Series on Wednesday night for the first time in 15 years. Now championship-starved fans who who didn't get tickets through the Mets will pay a hefty fee to get into a game.
The average asking price for a resold ticket to a Mets World Series home game in Queens cost $1,667.82 as of Thursday morning, according to ticket resale site TiqIQ. That price is the highest since the company started tracking World Series prices in 2010.

"A lot of it plays into the fact that they haven't been to a World Series in 15 years. There's definitely a lot of pent-up demand for these tickets," said Chris Matcovich, vice president of data and communications at TiqIQ.
The Mets will play the winner of the American League Championship Series, which the Kansas City Royals currently lead 3-2 over the Toronto Blue Jays. The AL champion will host the first two World Series games, then the next three games will be played at the Mets' Citi Field.
For Game 3 at Citi, the cheapest standing-room ticket is currently listed at $764. The cheapest seat will cost slightly more, at $767.

Based on resale asking prices for possible games in Kansas City and Toronto, the average ticket for the entire series will cost $1,653.23 if the Royals play, and $1,667.57 if the Blue Jays play. Those are also the highest World Series prices TiqIQ has tracked, Matcovich said.
He added that prices are likely to change, particularly if the Mets lose the first two games of the series away from home. The Mets and the AL champion will play Game 1 on Tuesday of next week.
No general public tickets were available on the Mets website as of Thursday afternoon, and it was not immediately clear what fans paid on the primary market.
