Baseball's World Series starts Tuesday night, and fans who couldn't find tickets through the teams face hefty fees on the secondary market.
The New York Mets travel to Kansas City to play the Royals in Game 1. Championship-starved fans have driven up demand, as neither team has won Major League Baseball's title since the mid-1980s.
The average resale ticket for the series will cost $1,437.81 as of Tuesday afternoon, according to secondary ticket site TiqIQ. The fee is the highest since the company started tracking World Series prices in 2010, ahead of the roughly $1,300 average in that year's series.
As of Tuesday morning, an outfield seat for Game 1 was listed on the Royals' website for $260. However, no general public tickets were available directly from the teams for Game 2 at Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium or Games 3, 4 and 5 at Citi Field in Queens.

Resale tickets for Mets home World Series games currently cost more than $1,600 on average. It tops the average fee of about $1,200 for a Royals home game.
"A lot of it plays into the fact that [the Mets] haven't been to a World Series in 15 years. There's definitely a lot of pent-up demand for these tickets," said Chris Matcovich, vice president of data and communications at TiqIQ.
The Royals, on the other hand, are playing in their second-straight World Series.
Fans may be able to find some bargains for Tuesday's Game 1. The average resale price is about $500, while the cheapest ticket was listed at $232.

The cheapest secondary ticket for Game 3 at Citi Field is markedly higher at $705.
