Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 140.40 points, or 0.64 percent, to 21,952.40 while the Topix index added 11.96 points, or 0.73 percent, to 1,644.16. South Korea's Kospi advanced 16.40 points, or 0.79 percent, to 2,099.42.
