Students looking to bring home the best pay throughout their careers may want to consider careers in law, medicine or engineering.

According to a report from job search platform Glassdoor, some of the best compensated jobs in the U.S. are concentrated within those fields. To compile its list of highest-paying jobs in America, Glassdoor examined the job titles that received at least 100 salary reports over the past year and applied a statistical algorithm to estimate the annual base pay for each. C-suite level jobs were excluded from the list.

Here are the 25 highest-paying jobs in America, according to Glassdoor:

1. Physician

Median base salary: $187,876

Not only are these professionals paid well, but the demand for physician roles shows no signs of slowing down, with 7,770 job openings currently on Glassdoor. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, almost all physicians complete four years of undergraduate and four years of medical school, as well as three to seven years of internship and residency programs, depending on their interest.

2. Pharmacy manager

Median base salary: $149,064

There are more than 2,000 roles with this title currently posted on Glassdoor. Many listings describe a pharmacy manager as someone who is responsible for a number of tasks, including overseeing the financial performance of the pharmacy, recruiting and training staff and promoting team engagement in clinical services.

3. Patent attorney

Median base salary: $139,272

Patent attorneys are required to have a J.D. or equivalent degree and are responsible for drafting patent applications, negotiating patent licenses and proving their ability to think strategically.

4. Medical science liaison 

Median base salary: $132,842

According to Glassdoor, some of the cities hiring the most medical science liaisons right now include Cambridge, Massachusetts; Washington, D.C.; Chicago, Illinois; Seattle, Washington and Dallas, Texas.

5. Pharmacist

Median base salary: $125,847

In order to join this profession, you must have a degree in pharmacy and be up to date on the licensing requirements for pharmacists in your state.

6. Enterprise architect

Median base salary: $112,560

Most enterprise architect roles require coding experience, strong communication skills and analytical skills.

7. Physician assistant

Median base salary: $112,529

With more than 13,000 job openings on Glassdoor, some of the most popular cities hiring physician assistants include Houston, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and San Antonio.

8. Applications development manager

Median base salary: $112,045

Many applications development manager roles require candidates to have strong programming and analytical skills, as well as a bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering.

9. R&D manager

Median base salary: $111,905

Many employers require research and development managers to have a master's or doctorate degree in engineering, biochemistry, physics or a related field.

10. Corporate controller

Median base salary: $110,855

Corporate Controllers are responsible for overseeing a company's accounting department and are asked to have a bachelor's and/or master's degree in accounting or business administration.

11. Software engineering manager

Median base salary: $109,350

Many software engineering managers are expected to have experience leading technical teams and projects, and play a key role in helping to hire and train engineers.

12. IT architect

Median base salary: $105,303

According to Glassdoor, the most popular places hiring for this role include Detroit, Michigan; Chesterfield, Missouri; Saint Louis, Missouri; Arlington, Virginia and San Francisco, California.

13. Software architect

Media base salary: $104,754

Many software architect roles require a bachelor's degree in computer science and experience in software development.

14. Nurse practitioner

Median base salary: $104,144

This role has more than 12,000 jobs openings on Glassdoor, and U.S. News and World Report gave nurse practitioners the second spot for 100 best occupations in the United States.

15. Solutions architect

Median base salary: $102,678

To be a solutions architect, most employers require a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related software engineering field.

16. Data architect

Median base salary: $102,091

Employers require data architects to have strong problem solving skills, great communication skills and experience with data architectures and data toolsets.

17. Actuary

Median base salary: $99,507

Actuaries are responsible for compiling and analyzing statistics, and are usually required to have a degree in mathematics, statistics or computer science.

18. IT program manger

Median base salary: $98,883

Many IT program managers are required to have years of experience supporting technology projects as well as a bachelor's degree.

19. UX manager

Median base salary: $98,353

UX managers are often required to have a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field.

20. Systems architect

Median base salary: $97,873

Like UX managers, systems architect roles tend to require a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field.

21. Plant manager

Median base salary: $97,189

Many employers require plant managers to have at least a bachelor's degree, as well as project management experience and good communication skills.

22. Scrum master

Median base salary: $95,167

According to one Glassdoor job description, a scrum master is required to have background experience in business development, quality assurance or technical development.

23. Financial planning and analysis manager

Median base salary: $94,862

Some of the places hiring most for this role according to Glassdoor include New York, New York; San Francisco, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Boca Raton, Florida and Cincinnati, Ohio.

24. Nuclear engineer

Median base salary: $94,852

For this role, employers require candidates to have a bachelor's degree in physics, engineering or math.

25. Attorney

Median base salary: $94,695

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for lawyers is expected to grow 6 percent between 2014 and 2024. Currently, there are more than 1,000 Glassdoor job openings for this job title.
