Since the coronavirus pandemic began in early March, millions of Americans have been left without a job due to budget cuts, office closures and changes in industry demand.
While the retail, travel and restaurant industries have taken a hard hit from Covid-19, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that employment in health care and the computer and information technology field is expected to increase by 15% and 11%, respectively, by 2029. In addition to jobs in these industries being in high demand, data from job searching site Glassdoor found that many of the jobs in health care and technology pay six figures annually and there is very little competition for landing these roles.
Low competition, as defined by Glassdoor, includes jobs that have a low ratio of applicants compared to the number of open roles.
When compiling its list of 13 jobs that pay over $100,000 with the least competition, Glassdoor looked at job titles on its platform that had at least 1,000 active job openings as of August 17 and at least 100 salary reports shared. Many of these positions have little competition because applicants need an advanced degree and extensive training in order to qualify for the role.
