  • Japanese shares were mixed on Thursday after manufacturing activity in the country shrank for a fourth straight month in August.
  • Oil prices turned Thursday afternoon during Asian trading hours as U.S. crude gave up earlier gains to trade down 0.18% at $55.58 a barrel. International benchmark Brent slipped 0.28% to $60.13.
  • The U.S. dollar last traded at 98.312 against a basket of its peers, withdrawing from an earlier high of 98.333. 

Japanese shares were mixed on Thursday after manufacturing activity in the country shrank for a fourth straight month in August.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 closed fractionally higher at 20,628.01 while the Topix index added 0.04% to 1,498.06.
