With Amazon Prime Day running June 23 through June 26 this year, now is a great time to apply for a credit card that can help you earn rewards on your Prime Day purchases.
Many of the best credit cards for shopping on Amazon.com feature easy-to-earn welcome bonuses, which you can then use to cover purchases during (or after) the sale. Below, CNBC Select covers a few ways you can earn a credit card bonus this Prime Day.
How to earn credit card bonuses on Prime Day
Apply for the Prime Visa card at checkout
The simplest bonus to earn is that of the Prime Visa (see rates and fees) from Chase. You'll receive a $200 Amazon.com Gift Card instantly upon approval, exclusively for Prime members, which can immediately offset the cost of your Prime Day spending.
You can use the card right away and earn up to 5% cash back on Amazon.com with fast delivery on millions of items. That cash-back rate jumps up to 7% back on eligible Amazon.com purchases from June 23 through June 26 when you choose No-Rush Delivery.
There's no minimum spending requirement to receive the gift card, but you do have to be an Amazon Prime member.
Apply for an instant access credit card
If you don't want an Amazon co-branded card, sign up for a card that has both a welcome bonus and an instant card number.
Access to a temporary card number after approval is key on Prime Day, since you won't have time to wait for a physical card to arrive in the mail. (Not all card issuers provide instant card numbers — though many do — so review the card's terms before applying.)
Many American Express cards, like the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express, give you the ability to receive an instant card number and earn a welcome bonus. Firstly, this card earns 3% cash back on U.S. online retail purchases (on up to $6,000 per year in eligible purchases, then 1%) — which includes purchases at Amazon.com.
It also features a solid cash-back welcome bonus, and the Reward Dollars you earn can be redeemed at checkout on Amazon.com (or for statement credits).
The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express has no annual fee and bonus rewards on a wide range of common expenditures. On top of that, you also have access to an intro-APR offer for purchases and balance transfers. So this card can help you save in a variety of ways.
