Expect E-Retail Traffic Jam

Online retail has had a “great season,” according to Heather Dougherty – and it ain’t over yet.

Dougherty, an e-commerce retail analyst at Nielsen/NetRatings, told “Squawk Box” that Christmas procrastinators are likely to keep hitting the Internet in droves.

CNBC’s Becky Quick asked if shopping online weren’t too risky, given the dwindling days until Dec. 25. But the analyst pointed to several Web firms, such as discount jewelers BlueNile and ice.com, each offering free FedEx delivery to beat the deadline.

Dougherty also pointed to the rise of cross-channel players like Best Buy and Circuit City Stores, which enable consumers to buy items online and pick them up at the store locations.
