The Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank named Georgetown University professor Dennis Lockhart as
president.

Lockhart's appointment becomes effective March 1, the Atlanta Fed said in an announcement.

Lockhart replaces Jack Guynn, who retired on Oct. 1 of last year.

The Atlanta Fed president will not be a voting member of the Fed's policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee until 2009.

Lockhart is currently a faculty member at Georgetown's Walsh School of Foreign Service, where he teaches international investment and global business strategy, the Atlanta Fed said.

He also teaches at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies.
