The company operates most of its business within its local service area, which consists of the 14-state region of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
Contest holders of the stock were banking on a good earnings report--and they got it. Qwest Communications said Tuesday (today) its first-quarter profit nearly tripled--despite lower revenue as it cut expenses while demand grew for Internet and data services. The stock is up about 2.36% from Monday.
