Last week, we started a new weekly segment called TechCheck, sponsored by AT&T, that will air each Friday on "Closing Bell" in the 4p ET hour. The 60-second spot is a quick, entertaining look at some of the stories the tech community is talking about from the world of technology. Stories that I might not have a chance to get to on the air during the week, but are still worth a mention because they're interesting and/or fun.
And when necessary, I'll include additional information about the spot here on the blog in case you're looking for more. One of the things I'm featuring this week is a great website on GeekCulture. If you're sick of Steve Jobs' and his trademark black mock turtlenecks, here's your chance to do something about it. Click here and have some fun!
I'm also showing the new "FlyFusion" electronic pen from LeapFrog which debuted recently. We've seen these kinds of pens before; a tiny camera in the head of the pen keeps track of what you write on special paper, and then you plug the device into your computer and upload all your notes. This one even comes with a built-in Spanish translator. It's pretty cool and comes out just in time for back-to-school shopping.
If you've got a cool gadget and are looking for a place to showcase it, the new TechCheck segment might be a great opportunity. I'm particularly interested in consumer electronics that people haven't seen before; but any technological advance could work. In other words, if it's already available at Best Buy or Fry's, I'm probably not going to use it.
But if it's not yet available, and coming soon to a retailer near you, then I'd be very interested. Everything from new iPod and iPhone accessories and mobile media devices, to the new hybrid drive-train from BAE designed for a new line of military tanks.
If it plugs in, and it's nifty, I want to hear about it. Cool stuff nicely designed that you think a tech and business audience might be interested in. If you have tape of the product, send it along, but I always like to try things out before I use them on the air.
